Summer Registration Opens for City of Kalamazoo Residents on April 3

Registration for Kzoo Parks summer camps and programs will open on Monday, April 3 for Kalamazoo city residents and on Monday, April 10 for non-residents.

Registration will be available online at www.kzooparks.org or in person at the Kzoo Parks office (251 Mills St) Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Fridays by appointment. Kzoo Parks offers a variety of free and affordable summer programs for youth from ages 5 to 18:

• Camp Kzoo is a summer day camp with 9 different weeks of special activities and trips for ages 5 (and completed kindergarten) to 12. 
• Super Rec is a free summer day camp with fun activities and field trips at 5 sites in Kalamazoo for ages 7 to 12.
• All Things Possible is a free college and career exploration program for youth ages 13 to 15 that are entering high school. Must be a Kalamazoo city resident to participate. Eligible participants can earn free drivers training if they complete the program and successfully pass 9th grade. 
• Field Trip Fest is the perfect capstone to summer with a week of field trips and fun for ages 6 (and completed kindergarten) to 13. Two week-long sessions are offered in August.
• Counselor in Training (CIT) is a work experience program at Camp Kzoo and Super Rec summer camp sites for teens ages 13 to 17. CITs can have fun at summer camp while working alongside staff to assist campers in camp activities. CITs earn a stipend of up to $500 at the end of camp, based on the number of hours worked.
• Youth & Teen Creative Workshops are free weekly workshops for youth and teens ages 10 to 18 to enhance their skills in music, improv, poetry, and dance. Offered in partnership with the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre.

Online registration is available for all programs. Most will be available via the Civic Rec platform. Since it is a work experience program, the CIT program will have a separate application. Community members can learn about Civic Rec and create an account before registration starts at www.kzooparks.org/CivicRec.

Registration is also already open for several Police Athletics and Activities League (PAL) summer programs:

• The Detroit Lions Flag Football Academy is a free flag football clinic that will be held on Friday, July 28 for youth ages 6 to 12 to learn about flag football and improve their skills.
• The Youth Football Combine will include player evaluations for the Kalamazoo PAL youth recreation football league and will be held on Saturday, June 10. Attending the evaluation is required to participate in the league. The league is free for Kalamazoo City residents and open to youth ages 5 to 18.
