Youth & Teen Talent Show

We're excited to host the Youth & Teen Talent Show again this summer! Youth and teens 18 and under can participate in the talent show with music, dance, comedy performances, and more!

This event is presented by Kzoo Parks and the Kalamazoo Youth Action Council in partnership with the Kalamazoo Civic. 

There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes along with Crowd Favorite prizes! The talent show will be held during Kzoo Parks Lunchtime Live! event on Friday, August 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Bronson Park (200 S Rose St). The show will be hosted by Von Washington Jr., the Executive Director of Community Relations for the Kalamazoo Promise.

Auditions will be held starting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 31 in the Carver Studio at the Kalamazoo Civic (426 South Park St). If you aren't able to attend the audition, send a video of your performance to mitchellk@kalamazoocity.org.

If your act requires any music, the music must be downloaded (preferably in WAV or MP4 format) and sent to mitchellk@kalamazoocity.org by Friday, August 8th by 5pm. There will be an optional practice day on Thursday, August 7 in Bronson Park (event coordinator will reach out to select a time if you selected yes during registration).

 

Talent Show Rules

  • Max age to participate is 18.

  • There will be a sound checks with the sound engineer the morning of the Talent Show (sound checks will be required, the event coordinator will send a schedule for sound checks and performance time, so participants can plan accordingly).
  • Talents may include (but not limited to) singing, dancing, instrumental music, skits, magic, comedy, martial arts, juggling.
  • Absolutely no profanity or insensitive subject matter will be permitted. Including music in acts must be instrumental or the clean version of the song must be played.
  • Costumes must be appropriate for all age groups. This s a community event.
  • Acts are responsible for their own props and costumes.
  • Recommended performance length is 3 - 8 minutes. Max performance length is 8 minutes.
  • All performances will be screened for appropriateness by the talent show committee.
  • There will be prizes given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
  • There will be a crowd favorite award. The crowd favorite will be chosen by the crowd (excluding participants who placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd).
  • Decisions made by the judges are final.
  • If your act requires any music, the music must be downloaded (preferably in WAV or MP4 format) and sent to mitchellk@kalamazoocity.org by Friday, August 8th by 5pm.
  • There will be an optional practice date prior to the Talent Show date (event coordinator will reach out to confirm date and time if selected yes during registration).
