Rockwell Park is located in the northeast corner of the Eastside neighborhood and is home to many community events in the summer including National Night Out. Rockwell is five acres large and is split into two sections by Trimble Ave. With support from the Foundation for Excellence, Rockwell received park improvements in 2018 including new playground equipment for 2-5 year olds and 5-12 year olds as well as new benches, swings, picnic tables, and an asphalt walking path. The previous basketball court was removed and a new basketball court was installed on the west side of the park near the existing tennis court. There is also a possibility of new outdoor exercise equipment stations. These improvements are based on input received from the community including input from Eastside youth on which playground equipment they would like best.
Rockwell Park is named after Ethel Rockwell who was a nationally known leisure time activist. Ethel served on the Kalamazoo Recreation Committee for several years.
