Woods Lake Park

Woods Lake Park in Fall

Woods Lake Park is situated on 6.47 acres in the heart of Kalamazoo, near the Oakland/Winchell and Oakwood Neighborhoods. The park is perfect for a fun summer outing, with a sandy beach, picnic pavilion (with six picnic tables), restrooms, and a playground. Fishing is allowed along the shore in designated areas and there is a nice walking path along the lake. Accessible parking is available in the lower parking lot.

The picnic shelter at Woods Lake Park is available to rent for gatherings and events. It's great for gatherings of 30-40 guests, and electricity and restrooms are available. The cost is $160 for four hours.

Reserve Park Space

From the turn of the century into the 1920’s, Woods Lake Park was the site of Oakwood Park, a popular amusement park. Oakwood Park included a roller coaster and a ballroom, among other attractions at the beach. The Street Railway at the time ran a special track on Oakland Drive (called Asylum Drive then) to accommodate patrons of the beach. The land for Woods Lake Park was acquired from various landowners in 1948 and dedicated in October 1981.
