Gates, Restrooms, and Water Fountains Will Close for Season October 1

Published on September 28, 2023

Restrooms, water fountains, and vehicle gates at some City of Kalamazoo parks will close for the fall and winter months starting Sunday, October 1 through May 1 of next year. Parks will continue to be open year-round, daily from 8 a.m. to sunset.

Restrooms and water fountains are winterized each year and reopen for the season once freezing temperatures pass and seasonal staff are available for cleaning and maintenance. Gates to some parking areas and vehicle drives are closed during the winter months due to reduced staffing and lower use. This will affect vehicle access at Spring Valley Park, Milham Park, Woods Lake Park, and Fairmount Dog Park. Gates at Versluis Dickinson Park will remain closed after Fall Softball is completed.

Residents can still enjoy all of Kalamazoo’s city parks throughout the fall and winter months as nearby parking will continue to be available. At Milham Park, the parking lot on Kilgore Road near the picnic shelter is open year-round, as is the large parking lot at Spring Valley Park near the water tower on Mt. Olivet Road. The upper parking lot will remain available at Woods Lake Park and on-street parking is available at Fairmount Dog Park and Versluis Dickinson Park.

Kalamazoo’s municipal golf courses (Eastern Hills, Red Arrow, and Milham Park) will remain open as weather allows.
