The Kalamazoo community is invited to a special dog-themed event at Fairmount Dog Park (1108 Prairie Ave) on Friday, May 1 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. “Bark in the Park” is a free event that will feature pet adoptions, a live DJ, food trucks, local pet vendors, and a cutest pup competition.

The SPCA of Southwest Michigan will be hosting an on-site adoption event, giving guests the chance to meet adoptable dogs and potentially take home a new furry family member. There will be music by DJ Coach Kev, plus Coffee Rescue, Teresa's Kitchen, and The Lab will have food and beverages available for purchase.

The dog park will be available for dogs to play in, and several vendors will be setup at the event including Raising Cane's, Hounds and Co., Pet Supplies and Grooming, Sprinkle Road Vet Clinic, Portage VCA, Kalamazoo County Animal Shelter, Kalamazoo Husky Club, Rocket Fizz, Kahoveck K9, Kalamazoo Barks and Recreation, Pet Vet Family Pet Care Center, and more. The Kzoo Parks tent will also have 150 Kzoo Parks branded pet waste bag holders to give away.

Pet owners can also enter their pups in the “Kalamazoo’s Cutest Pup Competition” for a chance to win prizes. To enter, dogs can get their photo taken at the contest back-drop and photos will be uploaded to Facebook for voting. The top three photos with the most likes will win a prize. Photos will be uploaded on Monday, May 4 to the Kzoo Parks Facebook page. Winners will be announced on Thursday, May 7. Prizes include donated prize baskets from Raising Canes, Barks in the Zoo, and Kzoo Parks.

This event is free, and all community members are welcome.
