KAL 1st Mission Statement

KAL 1st is a grass roots, year round instructional and competitive volleyball program focusing on the underserved student athlete within the Greater Kalamazoo area.  KAL 1st is committed to the education and advancement of the whole person through the sport of volleyball.

KAL 1st Goals

KAL 1st will provide a safe, positive and effective learning environment in which student athletes strive to achieve individual excellence through discipline, respect, leadership, responsibility, work ethic and teamwork.

In addition to teaching technical skills, KAL 1st will also be instructing our athletes on the importance of healthy lifestyle choices, proper nutrition and fitness goals.

It is our hope that equipping these student athletes early on in middle school with these life skills, it will keep them engaged in school, and strive for academic excellence.  Additionally, KAL 1st will provide these students with an opportunity to be a part of something that brings them joy, builds character, and gives them purpose outside of the classroom, which in turn will prepare them for success in whatever career path they choose.

KAL 1st Commitment to Coaching Excellence

KAL 1st athletes will receive top instructional training from both select KPS volleyball coaches as well as top Southwest Michigan club coaches. Additionally, USA Michigan Volleyball owner, Rob Buck, will be the Director of the first ever KAL 1st Coaching Clinic.  This new KPS based coaching clinic will provide year round coaching instruction to help create an elite cadre of coaching for KPS schools.  This commitment to coaching excellence will be achieved through expanding the coaches knowledge of the sport of volleyball while ensuring every coach and athlete has a positive experience.
