Fairmount Dog Park Rules

By entering the Fairmount Dog Park, you agree to all the rules and policies from the City of Kalamazoo. For the safety of all users, failure to follow these rules may result in removal from the park, issuance of a citation, or other enforcement action. 

  1. The owner, defined as any individual 18 years or older who brings a dog to the dog park or has a dog in his or her care, is legally responsible for that dog and any injury or damage caused by the dog.
  2. The City of Kalamazoo is not liable for any injury or damage caused by any dog. The use of the dog park is at your own risk.
  3. No more than two dogs per owner are permitted in the off-leash areas of the park.
  4. All dogs must be at least four months old.
  5. Dogs must have a valid Kalamazoo County Dog License and have up-to-date rabies, distemper, and Bordetella vaccinations. 
  6. Dogs in heat or displaying symptoms of illness are not permitted in the park.
  7. Dogs must be spayed or neutered.
  8. Dogs must wear a flat buckle collar or harness only with valid Kalamazoo County license and owner identification.
  9. Dogs must be within sign and under control of the owner.
  10. Dog fighting is not allowed. Owners must immediately remove any dogs exhibiting hostile, biting, or aggressive behavior. 
  11. Digging is not allowed. The owner is responsible for filling holes made by their dog. 
  12. Dogs must be on a leash when entering and exiting the off-leash enclosures of the dog park.
  13. Owners accompanying dogs in the dog park must be 18 years of age or older.
  14. Children under 8 years of age are not allowed in the enclosure. Children ages 8-12 must be under close supervision of an adult present inside the off-leash enclosures of the park.
  15. Owners must clean up after their dogs immediately and dispose of waste properly. 
  16. Smoking, eating food, dog food/treats, rawhides, alcohol, and glass containers are prohibited in the off-leash areas.
  17. Please remember to close all gates behind you. 
  18. Only dogs under 25 pounds may use the small dog area.
  19. Choke, prong, pinch, and spike collars must be removed inside the park. 

Dog Incident Policy

City of Kalamazoo Fairmount Dog Park Rules and Etiquette are designed to help minimize the chance of a dog incident. Should an incident occur, below is our policy and recommended action by dog owners.

  • Separate and leash the dogs
  • Remove dogs to neutral area by main gate
  • Inspect dogs for injury
  • Exchange names and phone numbers
  • Get names and phone numbers of any witnesses
  • If necessary, contact Animal Control at (269) 383-8775

Any size dog is welcome to use the large dog park, however small dogs are encouraged to use the small dog area.
