Imagine Your Neighborhood Youth Summit
The City of Kalamazoo is partnering with KYD Network to host an all-day Youth Engagement Summit on Saturday, August 20th. The Youth Summit is intended for youth between the ages of 14 and 22 that live in the City of Kalamazoo. The goal at the 2022 Imagine Your Neighborhood Youth Summit is to create a space for youth to come together and plan projects you will support and lead in your neighborhoods based on your interests and passions.
Each neighborhood has the chance to develop a neighborhood plan. This plan lists projects that people want to do to help improve their community. These projects could be improving parks, fixing sidewalks, supporting local businesses, creating more places to have fun around the city, and more.
At the Summit, youth will participate in discussions and activities from 10am-3pm to come up with a plan for their neighborhood. Results from the Youth Summit will add a youth perspective to neighborhood plans that are currently being created in the Stuart, West Main Hill, Westwood, and Westnedge Hill neighborhoods. For neighborhoods with approved plans, youth input will be shared with neighborhood associations, and youth in these neighborhoods may also be connected to existing projects. Youth that participate in the summit will also be connected to their neighborhood associations to stay engaged with upcoming events and projects in their neighborhood.
This is a free event. Lunch will be provided. Those that attend will also be entered into a raffle for a chance to win various prizes. The “Imagine Your Neighborhood” Youth Summit is a new event, but is expected to become an annual opportunity for youth in Kalamazoo.
Same day registration will also be available during early check-in at 9:30 a.m. prior at the event.
Join the Leadership Team!
We're also looking for youth to join the event's leadership team. If you're interested in helping make the event a success as a paid youth leader, text Jae Slaby (the City's Neighborhood Activator) at (269) 303-5857 to learn more.
