Restrooms, water fountains, and vehicle gates at some City of Kalamazoo parks have closed for the fall and winter months and will reopen May 1 of next year. Parks will continue to be open year-round, daily from 8 a.m. to sunset.
Kzoo Parks and the Kalamazoo Youth Action Council (KYAC) invite Kalamazoo-area teens to "Dive Into Summer" at a new event on Saturday, June 17 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kik Pool (1018 Walter St).
This event will celebrate the start of summer with music, activities, pool games, and water inflatables. The pool will be decorated with a tropical theme and there will also be a chance to win tropical themed prize baskets. Teens ages 13 to 18 are invited to attend and will have free entry to Kik Pool for the event.
The Kalamazoo Youth Action Council was formed in 2020 by Kzoo Parks as a way for youth in Kalamazoo to guide youth programs and activities while developing leadership skills, learning about city government, networking, and making friends. The council currently includes 13 members between 13 to 18 years of age. The KYAC also helps support and expand events for youth and teens in Kalamazoo. Earlier this year they hosted a Karaoke Game Night, and in September they will host a new Youth Entrepreneurial Fair for youth and teens to showcase their businesses and sell their products.
